Telangana State Election Commissioner C Partha Sarathi today said that the elections for the GHMC Mayor and Deputy Mayor would be held on February 11 at 12:30 pm.
He held a meeting with the State Election Commission (SEC) officers, and said that the newly-elected GHMC corporators would also be sworn in at the GHMC office on the same day at around 11:30 am.
"Later the sworn-in corporators will vote by raising their hands to elect the GHMC's Mayor and Deputy Mayor. If, due to time constraints, the elections cannot be held that day, they will be conducted the following day as per the GHMC procedures for the same," he said.
"The political parties must make sure to submit forms A and B for the purpose of the elections, and must also follow all the stipulated election norms," Partha Sarathi added.
At the meeting, the SEC head issued instructions to the concerned officials to make all the arrangements for the smooth conduct of the oath-taking ceremony as well as the elections.
Both the TRS regime and the SEC had been facing
much backlash for the delay in administering the oath of office to the 150 newly-elected GHMC corporators, elected more than more than two months ago (on December 1), and in conducting the elections for the posts of the GHMC Mayor and Deputy Mayor till the election date was announced on January 22.
