The newly-elected BJP corporators of the GHMC today gathered to stage a protest in front of CM K Chandrashekar Rao's camp office, Pragathi Bhavan.
The corporators gathered near the camp office carrying party flags and placards to demonstrate against the delay in issuing the notification for the constitution of the GHMC's new Executive Council, for which
the elections were held more than a month ago (on December 1).
The protestors raised slogans against the TRS government, and demanded that it take steps for the constitution of the newly elected body at the earliest.
Explaining their decision to protest, they said, "Despite being democratically elected to the GHMC, we have not been able to undertake any works in our respective wards. In the meantime, the corporators elected in 2016 are still acting as sitting corporators, and not doing anything."
However, the saffron party's corporators were unable to protest for very long as the police soon swung into action and thwarted their demonstration - while several protestors were detained, the rest were promptly dispersed after a minor scuffle broke out between the BJP workers and the police.
The arrested BJP leaders continued to raise slogans against the CM and the police.
The BJP has been consistently voicing its annoyance at the delay in the formation of the GHMC's new Executive Council. It recently
attacked the TRS regime for "deliberately" delaying the process of the formation of the new Executive Council. State BJP head Bandi Sanjay Kumar even accused it of delaying the formation of the council to buy time to "shamelessly poach" the newly-elected BJP corporators. Meanwhile, the corporators themselves had also
staged a demonstration at Tank Bund last month, to protest the TRS regime's "insulting" treatment of them.
