The bugle for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections was sounded by the State Election Commission today.
While the election notification will be released on Wednesday, the main dates were announced by the SEC Commissioner Parthasarathi today - the elections (technically for the Executive Council of the GHMC) will be held on December 1 from 7 am to 6 pm, the counting of the votes will be held on December 4, and the results will be declared after the counting of the votes, on the same day.
The Commissioner said that any re-polling necessary would ne held on December 3.
Nominations for the seats for all the 150 divisions of the corporation will start being accepted from Wednesday. The last date to submit nominations will be November 20, and the scrutiny of the nominations will be held on November 21. The last date for the withdrawal of the nomination papers is November 22, 2020, and the list of the final contesting candidates will be published on the same day.
The Commissioner said that the elections will be held through ballot papers instead of EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines). He also said that the election code of conduct would come into force with immediate effect.
The corporation has a total of 74.04 lakh voters in its limits. Of these, 35.46 lakh are female, 38.56 lakh are male and 669 belong to the other gender. The Mylardevpally division has the most number of voters and the Ramachandrpuram division has the least number.
The SEC has set up 9,248 polling stations for the election. Face recognition technology will be used in some of the polling stations.
The post of the GHMC Mayor has been reserved for women from the general category this time.
