GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said that they needed to be able to certify that all their roads were free from road cuttings and pot-holes.
GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said that the Executive Engineers of the GHMC needed to be in a position to give a certificate declaring that their roads were all free from road cuttings and pot-holes.
The Commissioner held a review meeting along with the Additional Commissioner (Planning) P Venkata Rami Reddy, Central Zone Commissioner D Ronald Rose, Engineer-in-Chief R Dhan Singh and other senior officials in the City Manager's Training Centre on monsoon emergency measures, on Wednesday.
The Commissioner directed the Executive Engineers to think on humanitarian grounds and plan a comprehensive strategy to tackle the roads, and wanted a deadline from the Executive Engineers for the above declaration.
In response to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's directions, the Commissioner held a review meeting today and asked why the engineering department couldn't take a truck of ready mix or a "Shellmac" (a mix which can be used directly on wet roads) and fill up the pot holes in a night's time.
He promised that he would sanction each and every task that was put forward by the engineering wing.
The Commissioner said that debris removal from the Central Zone had become a perennial problem, and that the GHMC was ready to pay whatever amount was required for the systematic removal of debris.
He directed the engineering officials to improve the mechanism of the emergency control rooms, and directed the officials to submit a report on tree falls, water-logging points on roads, inundation of low-lying areas and building collapses, if any, on a daily basis.
Somesh Kumar directed the officials to prepare a proforma on all the low-lying areas in GHMC limits by duly giving details such as population, reasons for inundation, from which tank the water was coming, the contact person of that area, and the list of rehabilitation centres in case of an emergency.
The Commissioner directed the officials to strengthen the monsoon teams, and said that they had to be officials stationed near the stagnation points whenever there was heavy rain.
The team discussed the problems of water-logging points and low-lying areas such as the Rajbhavan Road, the CM's Camp Office, Mythrivanam, Villa Marie College, Chintal Basthi opp. Taj Krishna, Eden Garden, the Haj House, the Lake View Guest House, the KCP Junction, Nadeem Colony, Bathukamma Kunta and Ramakka Cheruvu.
He further suggested to the engineers to bifurcate the problematic areas into 2 categories - technical problem and implementation problem - and said that he would sanction all the work that was finalized by the engineering staff as there was no dearth of funds in the GHMC. (INN)
