The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, on Sunday, lifted and cleared around 4,000 metric tons of garbage on the entire route of the Ganesh immersion procession.
According to Additional Commissioner (Health and Sanitation) L Vandan Kumar, an additional 700 metric tons of garbage was produced due to the Ganesh procession. The debris were cleared by deploying additional 50 vehicles and 31 sweeping machines over the stretches.
"The GHMC made elaborate lunch arrangements for the workers to discharge their duties without affecting the work," he said.
GHMC Commissioner M T Krishna Babu visited and inspected NTR Marg, Tank Bund and other areas in the early hours of Sunday, and monitored and directed officials to expedite the works as early as possible for the convenience of the general public.
Work on the lifting of garbage started at 3:30am and lasted up to 5:30pm on Sunday. (INN)
