The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has stepped up its special sanitation drive aimed at improving cleanliness and public hygiene across the city.
GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan today directed Zonal Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and engineers of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) wing to ensure the effective and time-bound execution of sanitation programs.
As part of a phased and systematic approach, Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) were cleaned on the first day of the drive, and flyovers on the second day.
On the third consecutive day of the drive, large-scale cleaning operations were undertaken along roadsides, dividers, central medians and kerbs across Greater Hyderabad.
The Commissioner himself conducted field-level inspections in the Adibatla, Kongara Kalan and Bongulur areas under the Shamshabad zone, and reviewed the progress and quality of the sanitation works, on the third day.
Addressing officials, Karnan stressed the need for greater coordination and focused efforts by Zonal and Deputy Commissioners, and SWM engineers, to enhance sanitation standards. He instructed officials to strictly adhere to the schedules for the upcoming sanitation activities, including the cleaning of lakes and nalas, maintenance of footpaths and parks, removal of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, and clearance of garbage accumulated near transformers and electric poles.
The Commissioner said that sustained monitoring and proactive field-level action were essential to achieving visible and long-term improvements in urban cleanliness.
Zonal Commissioner Chandrakala and other senior officials accompanied the Commissioner during the inspection.
