GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan today directed officials and sanitation workers to work in coordination to further improve sanitation across the city as part of the State government's 99-day "Praja Palana - Pragathi Pranalika" program.
As part of the initiative, the Commissioner conducted surprise inspections in several areas in the Khairatabad zone. Accompanied by Zonal Commissioner Priyanka Ala, he also reviewed sanitation works in the Jubilee Hills circle.
The team first inspected sanitation activities at Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) in Banjara Hills, including those near NBT Nagar and in the vicinity of Apollo Hospital. The Commissioner directed officials to eliminate the identified GVPs at the earliest and further strengthen sanitation measures in the area.
Later, Karnan inspected an open land parcel in the MLA Colony area of Banjara Hills and instructed officials to develop the site into a park for the benefit of the residents.
Speaking after the inspection, the Commissioner said that officials needed to clearly understand the objective of the Praja Palana - Pragathi Pranalika program and implement it in letter and spirit, and that all GHMC departments needed to work collectively to achieve the program's goals.
The Commissioner said priority should also be given to the development of parks, cleaning of lakes and roads, strengthening of self-help groups, town planning initiatives, payment of property taxes, development of road junctions and implementation of road safety measures.
