Prominent singer Ghazal Srinivas joined the Congress on Sunday, the 12th of May.
Srinivas was welcomed into the party by the former president of PCC, D Srinivas, at Gandhi Bhavan. He was presented with the party's khandwa and a shawl.
The meeting was graced by Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, Mohammad Ali Shabbir (an MLC) and several other political leaders.
Talking to reporters later, Srinivas said that he had joined the Congress on his parents' advice.
Ghazal Srinivas was born as Kesiraju Srinivas, on 14 October 1966, in Tekkali of Srikakulam district.
He holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the Andhra University, and a degree in library science from the University of Madras.
Srinivas began singing telugu ghazals since the year 1986. He has earned several accolades for his singing, chief amongst them being three Guiness Book records. Srinivas has performed songs in more than 125 global languages.
He was unofficially re-christened Ghazal Srinivas, following the global recognition that he has garnered for himself. (INN)
