The CBI Special Court, on Friday, rejected the escort bail petition filed by former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, who is one of the accused in the Obulapuram illegal mining case.
When the escort bail petition of Gali Janardhan Reddy came up before the court, the CBI counsel raised a strong objection, stating that Gali might tamper with the evidence by influencing the witnesses if he is granted bail at this crucial phase of the investigation.
Agreeing with the views of the CBI counsel, the court rejected Gali Janardhan Reddy's escort bail petition.
Earlier, Gali's counsel moved the petition,
pleading with the court for a 2-day escort bail to attend a religious ceremony in connection with the death anniversary of his mother at Bellary district in Karnataka on 31 December and 1 January.
In his petition, the counsel stated that Gali Janardhan Reddy would offer prayers at the Old Age Home and the Rehabilitation Centre for the Mentally Retarded. (INN)
