The Congress today praised the Telangana government's decision to implement 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in the upcoming local body elections.
Celebrations were held at Gandhi Bhavan, organised by the Congress BC Cell. Party members marked the occasion with fireworks and by distributing sweets. Among those present were Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud, working president Anjan Kumar Yadav, BC Cell chairman Nuthi Srikanth, and vice-presidents Sangisetty Jagadish, Allam Bhaskar and Gajji Bhaskar.
During the celebrations, Goud said that the landmark decision reflected the vision of AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and credited Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and other Cabinet members for working to realise Rahul Gandhi's vision. He said that implementing the reservations showed the Congress' commitment to social justice.
He also criticised BRS MLC K Kavitha for attempting to "take credit" for the Congress's achievement on BC reservations. "It is ridiculous for her to take credit for the BC reservations based on minor protests, claiming they were made possible because of her actions," he said. He claimed that during the BRS government's tenure no significant measures had been taken for the backward classes, and that the current reservation move was made possible only through Rahul Gandhi's agenda and Revanth Reddy's dedication.
