In a series of tweets, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today announced projects worth Rs. 573 crore for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The widening of the existing 2-lane road in the Hyderabad-Bhupalapatnam section of NH 163 in Mulugu district of Telangana to 2 lanes with paved shoulders has been approved at a cost of Rs 136.22 crore.
Gadkari said that the project stretch connected major tourist places, including the Laknavaram lake & the Bogotha waterfalls.
The development of the stretch would improve the interstate connectivity between Telangana and Chattishgarh, he said.
Mulugu was a Left Wing Extremism-affected district, and the development of this stretch would help the government gain more control over the LWE activities, Gadkari added.
Gadkari also announced that the rehabilitation and upgradation of NH 167K, including the approaches to the iconic bridge across the river Krishna in Nagarkurnool district in Telangana and in Andhra Pradesh, to a 2/4 lane with paved shoulders had been approved at a cost of Rs. 436 crore, on an EPC mode.
He said that the NH 167K would reduce the distance between Hyderabad/Kalwakurthy and important destinations like Tirupati, Nandyala and Chennai by about 80 km as the traffic currently following NH-44 would take to NH 167K after the completion.
He said that Nandyala was an important trading centre for agricultural products & forest products as it was close to the Nallamala forest.
The sanctioned iconic bridge at Kollapur would be the gateway for both the States, and help promote tourism, he added.
