Union Minister for Labour & Employment Bandaru Dattatreya and Telangana IT Minister K Taraka Rama Rao on Tuesday launched free Wifi services at the Secunderabad railway station.
A new ticket booking counter was also opened on the occasion.
Talking to mediapersons along with Dattatreya and SCR General Manager Srivastava after launching the Wifi services, KTR said that the whole of Hyderabad would get Wifi services by the end of December, with people getting free internet for at least half an hour.
To avail themselves of this facility at the Secunderabad railway station, citizens should be close to the footover bridge, and through their mobile phones connect to the Wifi connection named Railway MTS.
Plans are afoot to also introduce Wifi in the various express and premier trains that travel through the Secunderabad railway station. And by the end of this financial year, the South Central Railway will introduce Wifi services in 74 other railway stations.
The government is also planning to introduce Wifi in more cities in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and for this, a Gigabyte ethernet switch costing Rs 50 lakhas will be arranged. (NSS)
