As many as four lakh passengers flew into and out of the Shamshabad International Airport in Hyderabad in June this year.
A total of 199 services were operated from the airport on June 27. This was the highest number of flights to take off and land at the airport since the imposition of the lockdown in Telangana. A total of 35,000 passengers flew to foreign countries from the airport during the past month.
The figures are all reassuring indications that the domestic aviation sector is slowly getting back in its feet. Further, they are evidence of the fact that passengers are increasingly comfortable with travelling by air as the number of vaccinated people, in the nation and outside, continues to increase.
The relaxation in lockdown restrictions in the nation and the implantation of safety norms, like mandatorily presenting RTPCR tests before flying, are likely to have contributed to the rise in fliers as well.
Further, the management of the Shamshabad airport has also been working hard to prove a safe environment to its passengers.
Meanwhile, the Telangana government is currently planning to take up an extensive plantation program on the stretch between Aramgarh and the Shamshabad Airport road, on the PVNR Expressway.
Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar recently
held a meeting with officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the GHMC on the matter.
