In a jolt to Bharatiya Janatha Party ahead of the Munugodu by-election, former Alair MLA Budida Bikshamaiah Goud on Thursday quit the party.
He is likely to join the ruling TRS.
In his resignation letter, the former legislator alleged that the BJP was showing a lot of discrimination against the backward classes, and that he couldn't digest the injustice being meted out to the BCs in the party.
Goud claimed that he had joined the BJP hoping that the union government would set up a separate portfolio for the development of the backward classes and would allocate a special budget for the welfare of the BCs in the country. However, that hadn't happened, he lamented.
He also claimed that the BJP had not fulfilled the promise made in 2016 by the then Union Health Minister J P Nadda of establishing a 300-bed hospital for fluoride victims at Marriguda in the Munugodu Assembly constituency.
The union government had also failed to set up a Flouride Research and Mitigation Centre despite the State government allocating 8.2 acres of land at Dandu Malkapur village for the project, he alleged.
