The police have also seized 820 gram of cocaine-ephedrine, a digital weighing machine and five mobile phones from the accused.
In a major breakthrough on June 2, the Kukatpally police and the Balanagar SOT arrested five persons who were conspiring to sell cocaine mixed with ephedrine, in Kukatpally.
The accused were intercepted near Jaya Nagar, Kukatpally, while searching for buyers. 820 gram of the drug worth Rs 1 crore was seized from their possession. They were taken into custody and are being produced before the court.
The main accused has been identified as Gunasekhar (supplier). The other accused are:
- Unnam Surendra alias Suri (31), unemployed, resident of Tirupati, AP
- Dothireddy Haribabu Reddy (38), contractor, resident of Bapatla district, AP
- Chegudi Mercy Margaret (34), owner of a fast-food centre in Addanki, Bapatla district, AP
- Shaik Masthan Vali (40), engaged in a fast-food business, resident of Addanki, Bapatla district, AP
- Devaraju Yesu Babu (29), self-employed (loan provider), of Addanki village & mandal, Bapatla district, AP
- Appanna (peddler) from Bangalore, Karnataka
It was found in the investigation that Gunasekhar - a serving Task Force police constable in Andhra Pradesh - had proposed selling ephedrine for profit. Suri, attracted by the lure of easy money, joined the conspiracy along with others to sell the drug in Hyderabad, where there was high demand.
Suri had previously come into contact with Margaret, who had worked at Keerthana Finance in Kandukur, Prakasam district. Suri used to refer customers to her for gold loans and earned commission. Disputes later arose between him, Margaret, and Margaret's friend Masthan Vali regarding the repayment of a hand loan.
To resolve the issue, Suri's friend Haribabu Reddy, a road contractor from Bapatla district, tried to mediate. Reddy informed Margaret about the drugs option, and she then discussed the matter with her friend Yesu Babu, a private loan agent from Addanki. Yesu Babu claimed to know several people in Hyderabad who were interested in purchasing drugs.
On May 29, Suri collected 820 gram of cocaine mixed with ephedrine from Gunasekhar in Tirupati and proceeded to Hyderabad via Guntur. The group assembled at Jaya Nagar, Kukatpally, and planned to distribute the contraband.
On June 2, 2025, while the group was moving toward Bhagyanagar, Kukatpally, in search of buyers, a patrolling police van intercepted it due to suspicious movement and behaviour. One of the accused attempted to flee but was nabbed. Upon questioning and search, the team recovered 820 gram of cocaine-ephedrine, a digital weighing machine, and five mobile phones used in the conspiracy.
