With the monsoon due in Telangana on June 8, which coincides with 'Mrigishira Karthi' day, thousands of people are making a beeline to the Exhibition Grounds to take the
'fish prasadam' administered by the Bathini Gouds.
The 'prasadam' (or medicine, as it used to be called earlier) is said to be a cure for asthma. Like any treatment not tested in a laboratory, cynics and believers argue about its effectiveness, and the argument is never-ending.
However, arguments do not stop the thousands of people who are, a day before the Mrigshira Karthi day, camped at the
Exhibition Grounds, hoping to be the first one to take the 'prasadam'.

Authorities are a harried lot, with the hordes arriving in whatever mode of transportation they can alight. The authorities are engaged not just in controlling the families camping on the grounds, but also to ensure that food, potable water and sanitation needs are met.
Officials hope that the 34 counters will ensure smoother distribution of the fish prasadam, while NGOs and philanthropists are busy providing food and water packets.
On Monday, the atmosphere is almost like that of a village fair on the Exhibition Grounds, but when June 8 dawns, the authorities will know for sure if the arrangements they had made were worth it.
