Filigree artist Sriramoju Chiranjeevi of the Kala Karimnagar Silver Filigree Handicrafts Society has entered the Wonder Book Of International Records with his 10.25 kg silver Ganesh idol.
Speaking to mediapersons on Saturday, representatives of the Wonder Book Of International Records said that eight highly-skilled artisans had worked for 545 days to shape the 22" x 21" idol.
The uniqueness of the idol was that it had been developed with 1,500 separate pieces of hair made of intricate siiver wire, they said.
Syed Sardar added, "Creating this idol was a never-ending challenge; still our determination ensured that we completed it."
He said that silver filigree art dated back to 400 years in the Karimnagar district. "But unfortunately, this elegant art has never gotten the recognition it deserves. Still, our society strongly believes that we will reach out to the world with this unique art, and needs support from the State government and art-lovers to achieve that and create many more records."
