Hyderabad | 30th December 2010
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Bandaru Dattatreya on Wednesday charged that the Congress government which claimed itself to be a champion of farmers welfare of failing to implement welfare schemes for the benefit of rain-hit farmers.

Talking to media persons, the BJP leader demanded that the state government announce a revised financial package for the hapless farmers who were in a pathetic condition due to cyclones, and were forced to commit suicides due to the government's indifferent attitude.

"Not even the Prime Minister has bothered to visit the state to enquire about the state of farmers" he stated.

Dattatreya urged the government to increase input subsidy per acre for damaged crops.

He also demanded that the government immediately purchase discoloured paddy with Minimum Support Price by establishing purchase centres.

Alleging that the Congress MPs who had no guts to introduce Telangana bill in Parliament were observing hunger strikes to get political mileage, the senior BJP leader demanded the introduction of a bill on Telangana.
