The parents and family members of the youth who were arrested in connection with the violent protest at the Secunderabad railway station thronged the Chanchalguda prison today to meet their wards, under the Mulaqat facility.
The jail authorities received over 300 applications under Mulaqat, and provided opportunities for as many people to meet their wards as possible.
The police have so far arrested 46 persons and remanded them in connection with the Secunderabad incident.
Cases were filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Indian Railways Act and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act against the persons who participated in the violence.
The police said that some of them could get life imprisonment sentences too.
Speaking to the media, some of the family members said that their children were innocent, and were misguided to indulge in the violent acts.
"We weren't aware of them participating in the protest, and can't come to terms with our children facing charges and going behind the bars," they lamented.
