Violence against the Agnipath scheme for recruitment to the army rocked the Secunderabad railway station on Friday as hundreds of youth set afire three trains and vandalised the station.
The disruption began at 9 am when over 350 protestors took over the railway station. They started demonstrating on the railway tracks and halted all train movement. Things quickly went further south as the railway station was overrun by more angry youth and the security forces got outnumbered, and the protestors went on a rampage, setting afire trains, stalls and other railway property.
The protestors set three trains on fire - East Coast Express, Rajkot Express and Ajanta Express.
The railway and city police were trying to bring the situation under control. The police also opened fire in the air to control the situation.
Meanwhile, the railways are diverting trains so that they don't go through the Secunderabad station.
In addition, 71 trains - 65 MMTS and six express - have been cancelled so far.
