The Telangana Congress has strongly condemned Goshamahal BJP MLA-elect Raja Singh's statement that he would not take oath as member of the Assembly if it was administered by pro tem Speaker Mumtaz Ahmed Khan of the MIM.
"Raja Singh's statement shows the level of hatred that he has against the Muslim community. He does not deserve to be a Member of the Legislative Assembly, which is a symbol of democracy and secularism. He must be expelled from the House forthwith," AICC spokesperson Sravan Dasoju said.
Sravan pointed out that as many as 43 criminal cases were pending against Singh and that most of them pertained to hate speeches, and that some 24 cases were booked against him since 2014 by the TRS regime itself. However Singh was never arrested or tried in those cases, he lamented.
"Why is the TRS government, which claims to be secular, defending Raja Singh? Why is Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao preventing the police from taking action against the BJP MLA, who has crossed all limits? Why is MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi not using his influence over the Chief Minister to send Singh behind bars for his heinous utterances?" he asked.
Sravan urged the Chief Minister to take serious note of Singh's statements and the inaction in the pending cases against him. Since Singh had given a statement against the pro tem Speaker due to his religion, a resolution should be passed in the Assembly cancelling Singh's membership, Sravan said.
He pointed out that the previous Congress regime had put the Owaisi brothers in jail when they had delivered hate speeches. "There should be zero tolerance against people who spread hatred and communalism," he said.
Sravan also said that BJP national president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should expel Raja Singh from the BJP.
