BJP's Ranga Reddy district president Bokka Narasimha Reddy today said that the party was opposed to the Congress government's proposal to increase the GHMC limits as it would endanger the existence of Ranga Reddy district.
Addressing a press conference organised at NSS in Hyderabad on Friday along with Malla Reddy, former State vice-president of the party, he demanded that the Congress government, which was looking to merge 21 municipalities and seven corporations with the GHMC, should withdraw the proposal.
"If the GHMC limits are expanded, development in Malkajgiri and Medchal districts around Hyderabad will be hampered," he said.
He also said that there would be risks to ponds, and added that some ponds would also be encroached upon.
He said that the BJP had opposed the formation of the GHMC itself in the past, and accused the Congress government of trying to merge the municipalities and corporations into the GHMC to continue the dominance of Muslims.
Alleging that the government took the decision to collect taxes and appease the MIM, he said, "This decision is only political. People are opposing this unscientific decision. In the past the GHMC was formed through a similar exercise but only areas like Hi-Tech City were developed," he said.
He asserted that the proposed expansion of the GHMC would not benefit the people at all, and warned the government to refrain from it.
