TRS Government To Expedite Devadula LIS Works

Telangana Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao today directed the contractors in charge of Mulugu district's J Chokka Rao Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme (LIS), reportedly the second-largest of its kind in Asia, to expedite all the pending works for the same.

Addressing a high level meeting on the matter, the minister rebuked the concerned officials and the contractors for failing to complete the project within the set deadline, and warned them that they would face stringent action if the project was not completed soon.

"Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has always made it abundantly clear that such projects must be completed in a timely fashion so that the people of the state can benefit from them at the earliest. On his instructions, the government has provided all the necessary funds to the contractors for the Devadula project which will help many farmers in the state. However, the project is still incomplete. We will not tolerate any more delays. Please treat this as a priority, and complete the remaining works soon," he said.

At the meeting, Rao also expressed his displeasure at the "improper" management of the project, and asked the officials to coordinate with the relevant authorities to carry out the project smoothly.

The minister also instructed the officials to blacklist the contractors working on the LIS for violating certain agreements.

"The land acquisition for the project is not being carried out as planned. I would urge the officials to coordinate amongst themselves to ensure that this is looked into and dealt with at the earliest. It is time to treat the completion of the works as a priority," he said.

Rao also asked the officials to complete all other pending developmental projects on a war footing.

"The laying of roads and drainage systems, the completion of power and water supply systems, and the construction of dumping yards and vaikunta dhamas are to be expedited as well. The TRS government wants to give the rural populace of the state a good life. Please focus on completing the aforementioned works," he said.
