The Engineering And Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) question papers that on Sunday sealed the fate of around 3.5 lakhs students were, as usual, far from being error-free.
According to sources, Q. 89 (Code D) and Q. 91 (Code B) of the Physics paper were found to be erroneous, and the correct answer for both questions did not feature among the options given.
The Zoology paper was also reportedly found to be ridden with incorrect or ambiguous questions. Q. 59 had 2 correct answers, thereby putting the students in a fix.
The Indian Institute of Technology-Joint Entrance Exam (IIT-JEE) exam papers had 8 wrong, ambigous or incomplete questions, with the marks concerned totalling 30. The IIT-JEE authorities had acknowledged the errors, and announced that they would award 30 marks to all students.
It is surprising that the EAMCET papers could have so many mistakes, as a 15-member committee comprising senior lecturers is established every year to formulate the question paper for that year. Yet, every year, there are erroneous questions in the paper that have students waste a lot of time on solving them.
The students are required to answer 160 questions in 3 hours, and faulty questions are a major set-back for these time-pressed examinees.
Also, since a single mark results in a change of the rank achieved, faulty question papers cause a lot of distress among the students, especially as upto 20 students are reportedly competing for each medical seat in the state.
Meanwhile, EAMCET authorities deny any errors in the question papers, and announced that the key to the paper would be released in the first week of June.
