Lok Satta Party State Working President D V V S Varma on Sunday appealed to youth and all those who have shunned politics believing that it is marked by dynastic and family rule and money power, to utilize the Lok Satta as a platform for transforming society.
Addressing a gathering at the party headquarters to mark the celebration of Gandhi Jayanthi and the party's 5th anniversary, Varma said that Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan has decided to quit as state party President to make room for new forces to lead the party.
Varma unfurled the national flag, and V Laxman Balaji, General Secretary, the party flag. Earlier, party leaders paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary.
Varma said that in contrast to traditional parties, most of which have run money-based politics, the Lok Satta Party is committed to people-centered politics.
The Lok Satta has survived as a party because it is fulfilling a historic necessity, he added.
With the party spreading its influence in a number of states, Dr. JP will now lead it at the national level, he said.
In a pledge administered by Katari Srinivasa Rao, General Secretary, party workers said they would launch a second freedom movement, on Gandhian lines, to usher in good governance. (INN)
