The physical attack on the Global Hospitals staff and the vandalization of its property by family members of a woman patient who died at the hospital while undergoing treatment has shocked the entire doctors' community of Hyderabad.
Doctors from various hospitals in the city staged a dharna today in front of the hospital and raised slogans demanding stern action against the accused.
Holding placards, the agitating doctors said that they had lost confidence on the police department after the violent incident, and would not be able to treat if such incidents took place. They sought the intervention of the state government to prevent such incidents in the future.
The dharna created a huge traffic jam before the hospital, resulting in the police coming to the spot and taking the agitating doctors away from the area to clear the traffic.
On Monday, a 45-year-old lady named Shameen Begum was diagnosed with Swine flu and also contracted severe lung infection while being treated at the hospital, which made it a challenge for the doctors to revive her. After the patient was declared dead on Monday night, her sons went berserk ransacking the furniture in the hospital and attacking its employees, as also the police personnel who landed up there. The incident has triggered widespread resentment among healthcare professionals.
