Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud today alleged that the Union government was perpetrating a massacre under the guise of Operation Kagaar.
He said that despite the Maoists expressing readiness for dialogue, the Centre had launched a ruthless operation, resulting in the deaths of women and children. "It is unfortunate that the operation is still ongoing," he said.
Goud added that under the guise of Operation Kagaar, the Centre was trying to hand over forest mineral wealth to corporate entities.
The TPCC chief made these remarks while participating in the reopening ceremony of the CPI Makhdoom office.
Goud started by paying tributes to the poet-revolutionary Makhdoom Mohiuddin after whom the building is named, and described Makhdoom as a symbol of literary brilliance and revolutionary politics. He also reaffirmed that communist ideology remained relevant, saying, "There is no death to communist thought. We fought the Assembly elections in alliance with Left parties and succeeded. Only strong secular forces can protect the country's future."
He then used the platform to deliver a scathing critique of the current political climate.
The TPCC leader condemned the Union government for branding individuals who questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's policies as urban Naxalites.
"The very next day after I spoke against Operation Kagaar at a round table meeting, I was labelled an urban Naxalite and anti-national," he said.
"There is an urgent need to protect democracy in the country, and all secular forces must now unite to safeguard the nation's future," he added.
Goud also criticised the BJP-led Centre for weakening constitutional bodies. "Since coming to power, the BJP has systematically undermined institutions. Even the Election Commission is one such casualty, having become a tool to favour select individuals. In Bihar, the elimination of votes under the guise of surname discrepancies clearly benefited one party, and the Supreme Court needed to intervene. Even honest officials are now being forced to bow to political pressure. This is a dangerous development, and the INDIA bloc's united protest against this undemocratic process should be welcomed," he said.
