BRS working president and former minister K T Rama Rao today responded to the tragic deaths of six individuals in Hyderabad after they had consumed adulterated toddy.
Expressing sorrow over the incident on social platform X, KTR demanded that the State government provide Rs 20 lakh in compensation to the family of each deceased victim.
He urged the government to also extend full support to the bereaved families, and also ensure high quality medical treatment for those currently undergoing treatment in hospitals.
"It is the government's responsibility to protect hardworking citizens who struggle daily to support their families. They should not fall prey to such tragedies caused by negligence," KTR said.
He criticised the government's "inaction", expressing frustration that no concrete measures had been taken even after the loss of multiple lives, and called on the government to publicly clarify what steps it was taking to prevent such incidents in the future.
For the uninitiated, the incident occurred earlier this week in Hyderabad, where several people reportedly died and others were hospitalised after consuming adulterated toddy, a locally brewed alcoholic beverage. Initial investigations suggest that the toddy may have been mixed with harmful chemicals to increase its potency. The tragedy has sparked public outrage and raised concerns about lax regulation and the unchecked sale of spurious liquor in parts of the city. Authorities are expected to take swift and strict action against those responsible, and the incident has intensified demands for stricter monitoring of local liquor production and distribution.
