The Communist Party of India (CPI) State Secretary K Narayana on Tuesday stated that people would lose their faith on politicians if parties fail to initiate disciplinary action against rebels indulging in anti-party activities.
Talking to media persons after visiting the party office at Kondapi, Prakasam district, Narayana demanded that the Congress party take action against the MLAs who voted in favour of the No Confidence Motion, thereby violating the party whip.
"If the party fails to initiate action against the MLAs, it will send a wrong message to the people," he stated.
"This is first time in the history of the state assembly that a speaker has received disqualification petitions against so many MLAs under the Anti Defection Act," he said.
Asked if the CPI would field its candidates in the by-elections, Narayana said that the party was considering contesting in the by-polls in a few segments. However, he clarified, a final decision would be taken only after the party's senior leaders discussed the issue. (INN)
