Lagadapati Rajagopal, in his press meet at the Press Clib in Somajiguda, has said that he came to Hyderabad because his fast-unto-death was nullified by the efforts of police and other authorities. He did not want to fake the fast, he said.
The Congress MP said his fast had gone on perfectly for 5 days and 7 hours – a total of 127 hours – during which he hadn’t even partaken of lemon slices. However, the police had tried all means to disrupt his endeavour, he said, and indicated that because all his efforts were brought to naught, he was forced to call off the fast. He was going to meet the director of NIMS, Prasada Rao, but the media had spotted him.
Lagadapati says he has lost 6 kgs during this period, and that NIMS administers total parental nutrition. He questioned the police alert issued when he was missing, over 23 districts in the state, and wondered whether he’s being branded a terrorist.
He also added that the agitation for a united Andhra Pradesh was driven by people and not by specific individuals.
