Reports that BRS working president K T Rama Rao is likely to be arrested in the Formula E race case have sparked speculation about who will lead the party.
News reports swirling that BRS working president K T Rama Rao is likely to be arrested by the ACB in connection with the Formula E race case have sparked speculation about who will lead the party after his arrest.
The State government is preparing to hold local body elections soon, and the BRS will want to go in fully prepared, as given some unpopular moves of the Revanth Reddy government including HYDRAA and Musi, and several allegations that it has backtracked on promises to farmers, the pink party may have an edge in these elections, and a victory there will boost the morale of its cadre which will be especially important in the aftermath of KTR's arrest, and also put the Congress on the defensive.
In this context, many names are emerging as possible candidates for party leadership. Will supreme boss KCR, who has been quite inactive since losing power a year ago, step back in? Or will senior leader Harish Rao or MLC K Kavitha take on the responsibility? These are the questions on many minds.
Some argue that BRS does not have a leadership problem. The presence of multiple strong leaders is seen as a positive factor for the party, even offsetting the lack of a structured cadre. They claim that Harish Rao and Kavitha are prepared to take over leadership responsibilities, and there is interest in whom KCR will lean towards - even though Harish Rao has strong relations with the party cadre at the grassroots level, he doesn't seem to be a shoo-in at this time.
