DCA officers discovered a significant quantity of unauthorized medicines for sale.
The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana raided a medical shop in Amangal village, Ranga Reddy district, that was operating illegally without a drug license.
During the raid, officials seized stock worth Rs 2.22 lakh from the premises.
Acting on a tip-off regarding the illegal sale of medicines, DCA officials conducted the raid at D No 12-150, Amangal village, on October 23, 2024. J Bhagyalaxmi and J Narsimha were operating the medical shop, Amma Medical & General Stores, without a drug license.
During the raid, DCA officers discovered a significant quantity of unauthorized medicines for sale, including 75 varieties of antibiotics, antifungal drugs, analgesics and anti-ulcer medications. The seized stock, as mentioned above, was valued at Rs 2.22 lakh. The DCA officials collected samples for analysis.
The operation was carried out by G Prasad, Assistant Director of Ranga Reddy; Dr P Sravanthi Reddy, Drugs Inspector of Maheshwaram; and V Ravi Kumar, Drugs Inspector of Balapur.
The DCA officials cautioned the public against purchasing medicines from unlicensed medical shops. Buying medicines from such sources significantly increased the risks to public health, as they were unregulated, it was advisable to purchase medicines only from licensed medical shops, which typically displayed their drug licenses issued by the DCA of Telangana in a prominent place visible to the public, they said. Selling medicines without a license was an offense, and medicines purchased from unlicensed premises were likely to be counterfeit products, they said.
