Labour Minister Danam Nagender on Thursday claimed that the YSR Congress would merge with the Congress party, sooner or later.
Talking to reporters after taking the GHMC's Congress corporators to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar at the latter's camp office, Danam Nagender denied reports that many GHMC corporators were preparing to join the YSR Congress party. He said that Congress leaders from the city would never join the YSRCP.
It may be mentioned that several GHMC corporators have, indeed, recently joined the YSRCP. They include four Congress and a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) corporator. However, following reports that at least 20 Congress corporators were in touch with the YSRCP leadership, the Congress party has started a damage control exercise to keep its flock together.
Seethaphalmandi Congress corporator Adam Vijayakumar was the first corporator to join the YSRCP more than one year ago. Recently, Congress corporators from Habsiguda S Harivardhan Reddy, Suraram Colony corporator G Suryanarayan Reddy, Cherlapalli corporator (affiliate member) Singireddy Dhanpal Reddy and TDP corporator from RK Puram division D Surekha along with her husband joined the YSRCP.
During the meeting with the corporators, the Chief Minister reportedly assured them that their divisions would be given priority for the implementation of welfare schemes. They were also reportedly offered several freebies.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also held a meeting with the ministers and MLAs from Ranga Reddy district where he plans to conduct the Indiramma Baata from December 3, 4 and 5. (INN)
