Congress Rebel Candidate Withdraws
PCC leader D Srinivas convinced rebel party candidate to withdraw from the East Godavari LB constituency elections to lessen Gidugu Rudraraju's competition.
Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President D Srinivas on Sunday used his immense political experience and clout to persuade Congress rebel candidate Settibattula Kumara Raja to withdraw his candidature from the East Godavari local bodies constituency elections for the Legislative Council.
Following Srinivas's persuasion, Kumara Raja, in the presence of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, vowed to withdraw his candidature.
Raja had earlier announced that he would be one of the 6 candidates to contest the elections for the MLC seat from the East Godavari local bodies constituency.
The withdrawal of nomination by Raja leaves the official Congress candidate, Gidugu Rudraraju, to deal with his rival, Kudipudi Chittabbayi, who is a loyalist of former Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. He will be contesting as an independent candidate.
According to reports, 14 sets of nominations were filed on behalf of these 6 candidates. While 4 sets of nominations were filed on behalf of Rudraraju, 3 sets each were filed by TDP nominee Boddu Bhaskararamarao and Chittabbaui.
2 sets of nominations were filed on behalf of Kumara Raja, while the 2 independent candidates, Rudraraju Nagaraju and Datla Subbaraju, saw 1 set each filed on their behalf.
