Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, and North tamil nadu have been issued a cyclone alert post reports of a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal.
According to an IMD bulletin last night, a deep depression has taken over the south-western Bay of Bengal at around 500 km south-southeast of Chennai. It is predicted that this will escalate further and cause a cyclone that will cross Tamil Nadu and the adjoining Andhra Pradesh coast by Wednesday evening.
The Meteorological office forecasts rainfall at most places in these states, and heavy to very heavy rainfall on coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from Monday night.
It is inadvisable for fishermen in the states under alert to venture into the sea, as coastal areas will experience winds reaching speeds of 45 to 55 kmph during next 12 hours.
