After reports on October 27 that Cyclone Kyant is unlikely to make a landfall, the Indian Meteorological Department today issued a fresh warning to Andhra Pradesh of Kyant picking up momentum at the eye, and advised fishermen along the coast to come back and keep away from the shore.
As per IMD's report, although Kyant might never reach its full potential, heavy rains are likely to lash coastal Andhra in a few hours.
Kyant, which is present 280 km south of Visakhapatnam, 350 km east of Machilipatnam and 500 km east of Nellore, is rotating at a velocity of 18 km an hour.
The IMD also warned Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram to stay on high alert.
Meanwhile, sources say that the India vs New Zealand 5th ODI being held in Visakhapatnam might get affected if the ongoing Kyant rains pick up intensity.
