Cyclone Michaung: Krishna Brimming, 10 Prakasam Barrage Gates Lifted
Heavy flood waters entered the Prakasam barrage in Vijayawada, resulting in the water level crossing the maximum level of 12 feet.

Heavy flood waters entered the Prakasam barrage in Vijayawada due to the impact of Cyclone Michaung, resulting in the water level crossing the maximum level of 12 feet. Following this, the authorities lifted 10 gates and released 7,000 cusecs of water to downstream areas.
The flood waters are reaching the barrage due to the heavy rains in the upper reaches. In addition, streams and rivulets are overflowing due to the heavy rains across the district. With the barrage being flooded (its storage capacity is 3.09 TMC), authorities have lifted the gates and released the surplus water to downstream areas. Around 7,000 cusecs of water were released to the downstream areas to maintain 12-feet water storage at the barrage at 10 am on Wednesday.
At present, the inflow of flood waters is 2,908 cusecs and outflow is 7,000 cusecs.
