The Old City curled in turmoil on Monday with mobs of people from both religions resorting to extreme violence and disruption.
With unabated and uncontrolled violence persisting throughout the day, curfew was declared by the police authorities after a person was stabbed near Shahalibanda this afternoon.
Furore was prevalent throughout as brutal means of violence were used to create unrest in the Old City. By the end of the day, the number of injured reached 36 with almost 16 of them taking treatment at the Osmania General Hospital. One person succumbed to injuries before reaching the hospital.
With no time bounds mentioned, the curfew is said to begin at 7pm in the entire South Zone. Areas under the curfew are Cyberabad, Chandrayangutta, Chatrinaak, Shaalibanda, Falaknuma, Dabeerpura, Meer Chowk, Rain Bazaar, Bhavani Nagar, Kanchan Bagh, Madanna Pet, Santosh Nagar, Kaamatipura, Badurpura, Hussain-e-aalam and Kaala Patthar.
Also, the 10th class examinations in the Old City area have been postponed because of the tense situation there.
