13 days after the curfew was initially imposed in the old city of Hyderabad, it was entirely lifted on the night of Saturday, 10 April. However, Section 144 (preventing the assembly of 5 or more persons) is still being administered. Pillion riding from 11pm to 5am is not permitted as well.
The city, drowning in the aftermath of pre-meditated communal riots starting from March 27, forced the police to clamp curfew in 17 police stations around the old city on March 29, after 3 days of unrest.
According to the Additional Commissioner Of Police (Crimes) K Narasimha Reddy, the city police have so far made 272 arrests after registering 170 cases in the communal clashes, which claimed 3 lives and injured over 90 others.
