CPI leader and former MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao ended his "fast-to-death" in support of the Telangana RTC employees' strike today following a request by the Telangana employee unions' JAC (Joint Action Committee) and Opposition party leaders.
The CPI national General Secretary S Sudhakar Reddy, Telangana unit Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy, Telangana Jana Samithi President M Kodandaram and CPM State Secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram among others "convinced" Rao to end his fast.
Speaking on the occasion, Sudhakar Reddy praised Sambasiva Rao for continuing his fast despite the fact that the local police had tried to bust it. He alleged that the TRS leaders were all pawns in the hands of KCR, and that the State was being run like a dictatorship.
Venkat Reddy said that the RTC workers' strike was resembling the Telangana statehood agitation. He claimed that all sections of society had extended their support to the protest.
Kodandaram too praised Sambasiva Rao for continuing his fast for six long days. He said that the RTC workers would continue their strike till they got justice from the State government.
Veerabhadram said that KCR was not taking any steps to solve the "problems" being faced by the RTC workers. He said that the announcement of the state government that they would allow private buses in the corporation would not get any legal sanctity as it did not have the approval of the board of the corporation.
TDP leader L Ramana also spoke on the occasion.
