CPI Telangana Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy lashed out at the State government for arresting the TSRTC employee unions' JAC leaders Ashwatthama Reddy, Raji Reddy and others for their protests.
The arrests and the lathi charges on RTC employees including women were uncalled for and undemocratic, he said, and demanded that the arrested leaders be released immediately. He said that the rulers of teh State should not forget that even Gandhiji had conducted a peaceful protest as part of the freedom fight.
He also objected to the deployment of Section 144 and large police forces in the city and at the residences of the RTC JAC leaders. He accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of resorting to oppressive moves against the striking RTC workers. The workers had a legitimate right to protest peacefully for their demands, he said.
He also deplored the KCR government remaining adamant on the strike despite the High Court's advice and its strictures. The government should also hold talks with the RTC JAC immediately and work to end the strike, he demanded.
