Telangana CPI Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy today slammed the government over the handling of the Nayeemuddin case, and demanded a CBI inquiry into the case.
Reddy claimed that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) was not capable of carrying out an effective inquiry into the dreaded gangster's activities as his criminal activities had allegedly spread to several neighbouring states, and demanded that the government therefore order a CBI inquiry.
The CPI secretary said that the gangster had illegally encroached upon several lands in Telangana and three other States, and a lot of people were affected due to this. He demanded that the Telangana government restore these lands to its rightful owners.
He also claimed that there were several people like Nayeem whose activities such as aiding and supporting militancy and terrorism, and murder, extortion and land-grabbing, ran rampant throughout the State and the nation. He demanded that the government initiate stringent action against such people.
When asked about his views on the recent signing of the Telangana-Maharashtra Godavari water agreement, he alleged that the government was ruining the State's economy and the farmers' well-being.
He expressed his concerns over the disadvantage of having a reservoir at the height of 148 metres at Thummidi Hatti. He claimed that 148 metres was not sufficient for converting the potential energy of the flow into kinetic energy. It would flow less towards Telangana and more towards Maharashtra, he added.
Also pointing out the high cost of redesigning the existing irrigation projects, Reddy demanded that the State government find out ways to construct the Pranahitha-Chevella project at a lower cost.
The CPI secretary also pointed out that former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, too, had initiated several irrigation projects but had failed to start any of them. This regime would not be any different, he alleged.
