CPI national secretary Dr K Narayana today demanded the immediate abolition of the Governor posts as they were "a mere wastage of money".
Narayana said that the Governors were turning out to be political brokers instead of the bridges between the President and the states.
He specifically found fault with a meeting of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu with Governor E S L Narasimhan. This meeting by the Governor was to appease the Centre and the President which was wrong, he said.
There was no point in recalling the Governors, and the posts themselves should be abolished in toto, he demanded.
He also slammed the Centre for failing to settle the critical issue of the Cauvery river waters roiling Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Keeping an eye on the Karnataka elections, the BJP government was not taking the necessary steps in this regard, he fumed.
Narayana also said that the CPI would evolve a program to dethrone the BJP which he said was rabidly communal and pro-corporate, and above all, corrupt.
