The Union Minister For Textiles has directed the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) to intensify commercial purchases in Andhra Pradesh to help cotton farmers sell their produce.
The CM and former Union Minister For Urban Development S Jaipal Reddy requested the intervention of the Union Minister For Textiles for enhancing the procurement of cotton in the state.
Due to the recent unseasonal cyclonic rains, farmers in the state were facing difficulties in disposing their rain-affected produce.
The CCI increased its commercial purchases and purchase volume from the 3rd week of December to 7% and 25% respectively.
"Steps taken by the corporation have immensely helped stimulate prices of affected cotton to a great extent, and have helped cotton farmers in disposing their rain-affected produce at comparatively higher prices", stated Commissioner Of Agriculture in a press statement.
He also pointed out that the CCI would conduct commercial operations in the state till the end of cotton season 2010-11 for the benefit of cotton farmers.
