Alleging that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has received kickbacks from seed companies for hiking seed prices, the YSR Congress Party on Friday said that it cannot remain a mute spectator while the farmers' problems mount.
YSR Congress Party official spokesperson Ambati Rambabu said that the party would protest against the state government's "indifferent attitude" in redressing the farmers' woes, by picketing District Collectorates across the state on June 13.
"The state government has conspired with the companies producing the seeds to hike the prices. We will not remain quiet. Our party has decided to picket District Collectorates on June 13 from 10:30am to 2:30pm across the state to highlight the farmers' issues," Ambati told media persons at Sagar Society.
"The government has conspired with seed-producing companies and allowed an indiscriminate hike in the prices of seeds, without bothering about the farmers' interests," he added.
The YSR Congress Party leader further said, "Former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had stood for farmers' welfare, but Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has adopted anti-farmers' policies."
Ambati continued, saying, "Unable to face the local body elections, the government is trying to defer facing the voters by promulgating an Ordinance."
The meeting was attended by Gattu Ramachandra Rao and Raghurami Reddy. (INN)
