To reduce the suffering of the poor due to the ongoing lockdown in Hyderabad, the GHMC has decided to collect donations of rice and other food items from people and NGOs.
GHMC Mayor B Rammohan said that the corporation had set up a special wing to receive food items from the public, under the supervision of the Additional Commissioner of the corporation Priyanka.
He said that the corporation had also kept ready 10 mobile vehicles to receive such food donations. The food thus collected would be distributed after the collections were over, he said.
Rammohan simultaneously also asked the public and NGOs not to distribute food on their own, and warned that the corporation would take action against anyone if they violated this order.
Rammohan said that social distance was not being maintained in the charity programs being held by individuals and NGOs, and that such violations would only result in the increase in the number of coronavirus cases.
