Several prominent personalities announced donations for the Telangana government's initiatives to help the poor with supply of essential commodities during the lockdown period imposed to curtail the spread of the coronavirus Covid-19 in the state.
Anupama Venugopal Nadella, wife of Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, announced a donation of Rs 2 crore. A cheque for the amount was handed over to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao by Anupama's father and former senior IAS officer K R Venugopal.
Government employees and teachers also donated a day's basic salary. Employees' JAC leaders Karem Ravinder Reddy and Mamata handed over a cheque for Rs 48 crore, which is what the donated 1-day salaries amounted to, to the CM, towards the CM's Welfare Fund.
Telugu film star Nithiin also handed over a cheque for Rs 10 Lakh to the CM.
The CM thanked them all for coming forward with their contributions.
