The state government on Thursday received another jolt after contract lecturers of junior colleges gave an ultimatum of 7 days to concede to their demand of Minimum Time Scale, failing which they threatened to boycott the intermediate examinations scheduled to begin from March 7th.
MLC Chukka Ramaiah on Thursday led a protest by a group of lecturers under the banner of AP Government Colleges Contract Lecturers Association in front of the Board of Intermediate Education office at Nampally.
Ramaiah said that the lecturers would boycott the examination if the government does not concede to their demand for a Minimum Time Scale within 7 days.
The MLC said that the demands of the contract lecturers, which had been raised earlier, had fallen on deaf ears.
The boycott threat is bound to add to the government's worries since there are around 2,500 regular lecturers, while the contract lecturers' number is over 9,000.
The contract lecturers are paid around Rs. 7,000 per month, and the government had given a written assurance that it would solve their problems in mid-December, 2010.
