Reacting to the results of the Karnataka Assembly elections, Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar today said that the Congress would not come to power at the Centre by winning Assembly elections.
Speaking to media persons in Karimnagar, he said that local issues would have their impact on any State's Assembly elections, and that the vote bank of the BJP had been the same even despite its defeat. He said that the BJP had secured the same 36% vote share in the Karnataka Assembly elections as it did in the last Assembly elections in the State. He said that the vote share of the Congress had gone up from 38% to 43%, and that the vote share of the JD(S) had come down to 13% from 20%, resulting in the swing in result.
"All opposition political parties took on the BJP in the Karnataka Assembly elections. CM KCR extended his support to the Congress. Parties like SDPI and MIM also supported the Congress. And on top of all of that the Congress indulged in communal politics. Despite all of that the Congress won the elections with the votes of only a section of the State. We should remember that Telangana is not Karnataka. The Congress did not get even its security deposits in five by-elections held in Telangana whereas our party won two Assembly seats," he said.
The BJP chief also said that the BJP's strength had gone up from four corporators to 48 in the GHMC, and that its vote percentage had also gone up. He said that the impact of one State election would not be felt in other States of the country.
