The Telangana Congress today lodged a complaint with the DGP M Mahender Reddy against "misleading" news reports that its candidate for the Dubbaka Assembly constituency seat Cheruku Srinivas Reddy was joining another political party.
A delegation of the party's leaders led by TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy met the DGP and submitted their representation, and urged him to take action against those who were responsible for the false "news".
Speaking to the media later, Reddy alleged that leaders of the rival TRS and BJP were circulating the false report on the social media citing a famous news channel.
He said that the channel itself had denied the reports.
He also alleged that it was minister T Harish Rao and BJP Dubbaka candidate Raghunandan Rao who had hatched the conspiracy and circulated the video with the false "news" as they were scared of losing the Dubbaka by-election.
He said that the Election Commission had in the past disqualified a candidate after his victory for circulating similar false news, and that his party had attached a copy of the Kerala High Court judgement on the issue along with its complaint.
Bhongir MP and senior Congress leader Komatireddy Venkat Reddy alleged that the TRS and the BJP had come up with the fresh conspiracy after getting indications that the Congress candidate was going to win.
He said that some TV news channels had forgotten their duty and ethics, and cautioned the people to be wary of such channels.
